The history of the Hotel Drachenburg
Over 114 years of Hotel Drachenburg in Mittenwald
The Drachenburg was built in 1908 by two English ladies as a holiday residence. Folklore has it that the inhabitants of Mittenwald did not understand the two ladies because they did not speak English. In addition, the ladies were very withdrawn and headstrong. From “de zwoa Drachen vo da Burg” came the name “Drachenburg”.
The old building
Lobby, fireside lounge and staircase-porch with fireplace as well as our panorama suite on the ground floor (formerly public dragon bar) are the foundation walls of the Drachenburg.
In the mid-1950s, the “annex” was built, now the breakfast room and sauna. In the mid-60s, the entire “rear” part, i.e. the 2nd floor.
Family-owned by “Mehringer” since the beginning of the 70s, it has been transformed into the current “Drachenburg” with great attention to detail on 4500m² of land.
Hotel Drachenburg in Mittenwald is a family-run garni hotel. Close to Garmisch Partenkirchen, upper Bavaria in the Karwendel mountains. We are located on the border to Austria with great mountain views of the Alpenwelt Karwendel.
